Postcards for 2010

We have reached our goal of collecting two thousand and ten Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games themed hand-made postcards! This project is now closed.

Over 45 “Postcards for 2010 Workshops” were held with many different community groups.

Over 1,000 people participated in the project. People of all ages, abilities and backgrounds have created postcards: including a former Olympian; friends and family members of Olympians and Paralympians; talented artists and athletes; young children; people with disabilities; senior citizens; people who love the Olympics; people who have come from all over the world to live in Vancouver and many others.

The youngest participant was under 2 years old, and the most senior was 95 years old.

Over 80% of the cards were created by children between 5 and 9 years old.

The cards feature many aspects of the games including:

The Symbols: 2010 – The Rings – The Inukshuk Emblem – The Paralympic Emblem – The Olympic Torch – Medals – The Podium

The Events: Skiing – Snowboarding – Sliding – Speedskating – Curling – Hockey – Biathalon (which seems especially popular with young boys!) – Wheelchair Curling – Sledge Hockey – Figure Skating – and even a few invented events!

The Mascots: Quatchi – Sumi – Miga – and of course Mukmuk (everybody loves MukMuk)

Messages: of welcome and support for all the athletes and teams, as well as messages of peace, unity and celebration, in many different languages: including: English – French – Spanish – German – Russian – Korean – Japanese – Chinese – Arabic – Katchi (an Indian spoken dialect) – Vietnamese – Latin
